The seven steps to reading

These are seven steps that have been tested over the past 16 years while working on a one-on-one basis with over 400 students. These students experienced reading challenges for one reason or the other. In some cases, these students were considered dyslexic or hyperactive; they lacked focus or interest in reading generally. By taking them through an orientation programme which helps them to focus their minds students showed remarkable progress in as little as 75 hours of practice.

These steps allow the child to identify challenging words as well as known words. As the student uses these steps the student develops concept development as well as word attack skills. The student develops the technique of substituting challenging concept with more familiar concepts thus building comprehension. As the student masters the seven steps the student also masters the art of asking questions that makes the mind want to read more. The student develops paraphrasing techniques as well as sharpening analytical skills.

Once these steps have been memorized, they guarantee reading mastery and lasting comprehension and memory of what has been read. These steps once practiced faithfully become automatic and can be applied to all courses that involve reading. These steps become invaluable when dealing with problem solving in mathematics; these steps improves comprehension of what is being read.

I have personally tested the seven steps while reading for a Finance and management course with a university out of Pennsylvania. I got 100% on my first test; this was my first 100% as a student in any learning institution. Since then many of my students have reported getting 100% in various subjects such as geography and Social studies which require a lot of reading. I recommend these seven steps highly.
